Practical: Cleansing and Toning the skin

Its our first practical lesson and we are learning how to clean and prepare the skin. This is to give us a clean canvas to work with and also to clear any dirt on the surface of the skin. It is also to ease us into the practice of working on someone else. This allows us to be able to determine how much pressure we should apply to the face and what motions work best.

Products Used

  • Cotton pads
  • Cotton buds
  • Cream cleanser
  • Toner
  • Moisturiser

Steps

  1. Make sure area is clean and tidy with no risks or hazards around.
  2. Tie up own hair and make sure hands are clean.
  3. Once model is sat down, dress gown around him/her. This is so that no products can fall and ruin clothing.
  4. Clip back hair out the face.
  5. Take two cotton pads and squeeze a small amount of cleaner onto them. Using an upwards circular motion, wipe at the face starting from the neck and working your way up.
  6. Repeat with new pads if necessary making sure to get around the nose and eyes.
  7. Use a cotton bud with a small amount of cleanser on to get rid of any mascara by the lashes or other hard to reach places.
  8. All used pads and buds should be placed straight into a bin after use.
  9. Repeat steps 5 - 8 with toner.
  10. Squeeze a small amount of moisturiser onto the back of hand and apply to the face using clean fingers.

This is after I have cleaned my models face.

There are a few questions you should ask your client before using any products on the face. This then straight away gives you the knowledge of how to work with your blank canvas.
  • Are you allergic to anything?
  • What type of skin do you have?
  • Do you wear contact lenses?
I found this lesson really easy to understand. It's a very straight forward process and I really liked how Sue taught it to us as she was very descriptive and helpful.
